Ben Rausch is a Pretoria-born creative whose talents range across illustration, animation, music, live performance and event design. When you mush them together, it resembles a disco ball, lightly touched by a soft, entrancing laser beam. Woooh….
Ben started “VJ-ing” in 2005, and has been pushing the envelope on what live visual performance means ever since. Using a Roland Keytar as his primary instrument, Ben combines animations and video in an unhinged, joyous fashion that tastes like sweets. Also in 2005, he became DJ Sassquatch. Still in the same year, he hosted Pretoria’s first Sovereign Academy party. Ben has shared a stage with kidofdoom, Eyes Like Mirrors and Bateleur. He has toured with UK noise-pop band Johnny Foreigner, performing across the USA, UK, France, Germany, Switzerland, Czech Republic and The Netherlands.
More recently, Ben is responsible for Rebel Alliance, a collaborative effort luring creatives from various fields to work together on fun, pro-active projects. His current main focus is Cool Your Jets, a design and animation company he established with Matt McFarlane in 2011. Otherwise, Ben remains busy releasing music through his SMACM label, or just being cool.
