Pluto Panoussis
v
FILMMAKER / CREATOR OF SKAAPSTAD / FOUNDER OF iMPAC / HEAD OF OPEN WINDOW FILM ARTS
In 2005, 75 years after its discovery, the heavenly body called Pluto was demoted to a dwarf planet, or, just another object in the Kuiper Belt because it wasn’t big enough. Around the same time in Pretoria, here on Earth, the exact opposite happened to a body with the same name, but only 5.3×10-21 of the mass. See, Pluto Panoussis was on his way to bigger things.
During the course of his career, Pluto (the human) has been a designer, an illustrator, a writer, an architect, and the director of a number of award-winning productions, which span a range of media, including film, television and the stage. He has co-written and directed two television series, exhibited as a fine artist with 5 solo exhibitions to his name, created the corporate identities of numerous companies and designed and headed the publicity campaigns of over 100 local and international theatre productions. He is the co-founder and art director of the social commentary cartoon strip ‘Skaapstad’ and is currently the head of the Film Arts Department at the Open Window School of Visual Communication. iMPAC, the Initiative for Motion Pictures within the African Continent, founded by him in 2009, is the latest ingenuity in his ongoing commitment towards fostering a culture of exploration in the visual arts.
Now, if you were a planet, and you had the same name as this guy, I’m sure you’d also feel pretty small.
